China, Djordjevic: “I want Chinese basketball to return to the enthusiasm of Yao Ming’s times”

The new China coach Sasha Djordjevic was interviewed by La Repubblica-Milan and talked about his new experience as coach of a national team:

“I’ve always looked for challenges in my life and coaching China is a strong, different choice, out of my comfort zone but with very specific sporting goals. I want Chinese basketball to return to the enthusiasm of Yao Ming’s times by trying to give, together with him who is now the president of the federation, a very positive, humble, highly prepared and intelligent character, a technical influence on the whole movement which has potential extraordinary. As always at the beginning of my adventures, when I mention the goals of my teams, many think I’m crazy, but then in the end, somehow, I get there.
Two years ago, at Virtus we won 19 consecutive Eurocup matches while Milan went within a shot of the Euroleague Final Four: what should we say about Italian basketball then? The reality is that today it is difficult to always stay at the top. We would like more continuity in the work, but here we are excited by a victory and every defeat is a catastrophe where everyone wants to change everything”.
