Today Borussia Dortmund meets second division side Fortuna Düsseldorf in the first friendly of the new year. It starts at 4 p.m. in Marbella (Spain).
Both teams are in training camp in Andalusia. On the flight to Spain, BVB coach Edin Terzic was delighted to have the full squad of 28 players on board for the first time in a long time.
“It’s a different feeling when the team is finally complete again,” said BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. “You can tell the boys are interested. We’re happy about every player who’s back, because we’re also regaining a bit of quality with each and every one of them.”
Also present: Sebastian Haller. The striker, who is suffering from testicular cancer, is after two surgeries and chemotherapy, is due to continue his rehabilitation in Spain and is already taking part in part of the team training. Haller came before the season for a BVB record transfer fee of over 30 million euros.
“We were so happy that he is back. How he came back with mental strength is strong,” said BVB captain Marco Reus. “But we would all do well to give him a little time until he finds his rhythm.”
On January 13, BVB will test against FC Basel. Borussia will play their first competitive game on January 22 against Augsburg.
