Mirra Andreeva is getting better and better and defeated Marketa Vondrousova in Madrid.
In her first meeting on the tour, Czech No. 7 seed Marketa Vondrousova faced teenager Mirra Andreeva. From the start, the Russian showed no fear of the reigning Wimbledon champion and started with a quick 4-1 lead. Afterwards, the 16-year-old had her only weak phase in the match and even had to accept the interim equalizer. When the score was 5:5, she took advantage of her third break chance in the game and then served confidently to win the first round.
Andreeva also got off to a furious start in the second act and secured the first four games. In contrast to the first set, the world ranking remained 43rd. continued on the accelerator and won 7:5, 6:1 after 76 minutes.
In the round of 16, the unseeded Andreeva faces No. 12-ranked Italian Jasmine Paolini, who beat former WTA world champion Caroline Garcia from France 6-3, 6-2. Kasatkina wins the Russian duel
Daria Kasatkina, ranked number 10, is also in the round of 16. Against her Russian compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, seeded in 20th position, the 26-year-old retained the upper hand 7:6 (5), 7:5 after two hard-fought sets in just under two hours and will meet Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan in the round of 16.
