Yassine Bono, Moroccan goalkeeper, still doesn’t believe it: “I have to pinch myself, I’m dreaming”

Yassine Bono, Sevilla goalkeeper, admitted that it was “very difficult to find the words” to describe what he felt about the historic classification of Morocco for the semifinals of the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

“I have to pinch myself, I’m dreaming”said Bono between smiles in the press room of the Al Thumama stadium, where he attended as the best player of the match against Portugal.

He thanked his loved ones and all the fans for their support and also joked with his coach, Walid Regragui, saying that he would have to give them rest to “face what lies ahead” (the semi-final).

“All the players had a fantastic performance, there were injured, tired, but everyone on the field gave the highest level”said Bono, who assured that the team showed that it can “to face any team in the world” and its players “create miracles”.

And it is that the Moroccan goalkeeper has already gotten used to being a figure game after game. In the round of 16 he was the player in charge of qualifying the Africans after saving Carlos Soler and Sergio Busquets’ penalties. Now, he shone again under the three sticks, this time against the ‘Portuguese’ team. Bono saved his goal three times, one of them after a shot from Cristiano Ronaldo.

It should be noted that this is the first time in World Cup history that a team has reached the semifinals. The next step to continue making their feat bigger, Morocco awaits its rival, which it will meet once the game between England and France ends.

Who is Bono, the Moroccan goalkeeper?

The Sevilla goalkeeper was born in Montreal, Canada, but from a very young age he moved to Morocco, his parents’ homeland. There he made his debut at Wydad Casablanca and later went through Atlético de Madrid B, Real Zaragoza, Girona and his current club, the ‘rojiblanco’.
