Celtics star Jaylen Brown receives bold support after final run

Jaylen Brown has put on some incredible performances for the Boston Celtics this season and is currently the subject of All-NBA discussions with fans and media alike.

According to Keith Smith of The Current News on Sports, who spoke on an episode of the podcast Postin’ Up With Keith Smith & Adam Taylor, Brown’s improved performances are enduring.

In his first 24 games of the current season, Brown averaged 26.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 49.8% from the field, 34.5% from deep and 83.8% shot out of the field.

According to a Dec. 5 article by NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg, Brown could get a significant raise if he can maintain his current level of performance for the remainder of the season and through the playoffs.

“If Brown snags one of 15 All-NBA finishes this season, he could trigger the criteria for the designated veteran exception, which could put him in position to sign a supermax extension with the Celtics this offseason… That extension could net him around $290 million over five seasons, depending on where the cap lands for the 2024-25 campaign. With an All-NBA season, Brown could demand a first-year salary starting at 35 percent of this season’s cap, with current projections suggesting a starting salary of $50 million,” Forsberg wrote.

Brown’s current contract runs until 2024, when he will become a full free agent; However, if he gains supermax eligibility, you can expect the Celtics to issue him a max offer sheet at the earliest opportunity, which would likely keep the Star Wing through his Boston prime.

Speaking to NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin on Dec. 4, Brown cut a confident figure after his 34-point night against the Brooklyn Nets and explained that he believes he’s capable of going against the best players in the world to play.

“Just being aggressive, coming out, getting them to guard me. I set it in motion and just kept going. I can play with the best of them, so I like to remind people… I’m feeling good, I’m feeling great, I’m feeling strong, I’m getting into a rhythm. I’m starting to focus a little more on what’s ahead and play on both sides of the ball. I’m starting to get a rhythm into the season,” said Brown.

The Celtics are hoping Brown will continue to prove himself as an All-NBA player, starting with their Dec. 10 game against the Golden State Warriors in a replay of last season’s NBA Finals.
