The Moroccan national team has reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup after beating Spain on penalties. Before the high-fives, Hakim Ziyech and friends were recorded reading Al Fatihah’s letter.

Morocco made history by advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup for the first time. In the round of 16, Walid Reragui’s men eliminated Spain on penalties.

At the Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan, Doha, Tuesday (6/12/2022), Morocco was able to hold off Spain 0-0 for 120 minutes. In the high-five round, the Atlas Lions then won 3-0.

Before the penalty shoot-out, the Moroccan squad was recorded praying. In the video that has gone viral on social media, it appears that the Moroccan players are reciting verses from the holy Koran.

Surah Al Fatihah was heard being read by the Moroccan squad, who gathered together in a circle on the field. The players, including coach Reragugui, took part in reciting Surat Al Fatihah before taking a penalty in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, which they went on to win.

The action of the Moroccan national team player was widely praised by netizens. Some considered that the Moroccan players got a ‘blessing’ for reading the opening letter in the Koran.

“Everything is possible when you surrender everything to Him. That’s all. Subhanallah,” replied one netizen.

“Because Al Fatihah is so strong for those who believe. This is the strength of Al Fatihah,” said another netizen.

Morocco is indeed an Arab-African country. The majority of the population is Muslim, including the players who are currently competing in the 2022 World Cup.

In the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, the Moroccan national team will face Portugal. The match will be held at Al Thumama Stadium, December 10.
