Serena Williams only needed seven words to cause a stir in the tennis world. “I’m ready to hit balls again,” the superstar wrote on X and is now giving fans hope for a return to the tour.

Williams played her last match at the 2022 US Open against Ajla Tomljanovic and was bid farewell with a big show at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Tennis megastar Williams never spoke about ending his career
But the now 42-year-old never wanted to know anything about a final resignation. Just a few weeks after what was supposed to be her last match, she made it clear: “I’m not retired. The chances of a return are very high. You can come to my house, I have a place.”
With 23 Grand Slams, Williams is the women’s record winner and is therefore considered the best tennis player in history. In a guest article in Vogue last year, Williams had already left the door open for a comeback.

“I never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me,” Williams wrote.
Will Serena Williams return?
She added: “I see this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use this word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people. Perhaps the best word to describe what I have in mind is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m moving away from tennis and towards other things that are important to me.”
