NBA action on Sunday

Orlando Magic gegen Boston Celtics

The Celtics may be all the rage at the moment, but this weekend’s opponents, the Orlando Magic, made the headlines in outstanding fashion.

In the team’s 135-124 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, the Magic boasted their largest offensive quarter in franchise history, scoring 50 points in the first 12 minutes of the game. Let’s repeat that for the people in the back: 50 points in 12 minutes.

Highlights of the Atlanta Hawks’ journey to the Orlando Magic in Week 9 of the NBA

Though Atlanta didn’t immediately concede, they were never able to close that gap after the first quarter, instead losing to their opponents who had eight different scorers with at least 11 points.

The victory adds another victory to their current active streak and puts them in a good mood for this Sunday’s clash with the best team in the league.

Sure, Boston experienced a bit of a slump recently, losing three games in a row. That will be a good incentive, if anything.

But where there’s a Jayson Tatum, there’s a way. He scored 44 points against the Los Angeles Lakers and consistently delivered enough numbers to make him a strong pick in our 2022-23 MVP predictions.

Tatum added a binding pull-up with 17.1 seconds left, dodging LeBron James and co. in overtime. This weekend’s clash might not need extra minutes, but expect close competition with Boston at the forefront with their star-studded line-up.

Highlights of the Golden State Warriors’ visit to the Indiana Pacers in Week 9 of the NBA

The warriors are in free fall, dealing with a number of injuries and are forced to play secondary options instead of their strongest unit.

A 119:125 loss against the Indiana Pacers was cut short, with Stephen Curry having to leave the proceedings early due to a shoulder injury.

Trainer Steve Kerr said: “He’s going to have an MRI tomorrow. So, you know, he got disfellowshipped, you know, mid-fourth. The training staff told me he wouldn’t be playing for the rest of the night. And we will see. We’ll see how he’s doing tomorrow.”

Curry joins Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins on the touchline, making it increasingly likely that Jordan Poole, who scored 20 points in that defeat, and James Wiseman will be in the starting blocks.

What does this mean for Toronto? Well, Fred VanVleet was in good shape. But the nature of their defeat against the Sacramento Kings, where they were swept away by an attack that shouldn’t have been so overwhelming, is ringing alarm bells.

Essentially, these are two teams that need points and both are trying to improve because of defensive problems and problems off the field. Our prognosis? An overtime win for the Warriors, led by Poole.
