On Thursday and Friday, Denmark plays an international match against Germany. Friendly matches to be sure, but it can still be a neighborly clash with ignition, as there is a lot of good sparring to be had for the young Danish players who will represent Denmark in the two clashes.

– We are fielding a young team which will meet not just some of Europe’s best, but the world’s best players in their category. It requires our young talents to play to their best and show us where they are in their development. We are very much looking forward to seeing that and to them getting that experience, says Jens Meibom, elite and sports manager at Badminton Denmark.

As part of the friendly matches, Germany must field their stars in at least one of the matches. This means that the Danes can look forward to fighting resistance from, for example, Yvonne Li, Mark Lamsfuss, Marvin Seidel and Isabel Lohau. At the same time, it also strengthens the European cooperation between the unions.

– We are happy to be able to contribute to joint European cooperation, and therefore we had no doubt that we should field a team when the German association reached out and asked if we should organize two friendly matches. It has sporting value for the players, and when it simultaneously helps the German Badminton Association to profile badminton in Germany, we would of course like to support it, says Jens Meibom.

Neither Denmark nor Germany will play qualifying matches for the EC for mixed teams 2023, as both nations are directly qualified, so the friendlies must also be used as a substitute for the qualifying matches, which are here in December.
