Cuba rewards its best athletes of 2022 – Juventud Rebelde

Cuban sport has celebrated its great exponents over the past 12 months and did so this Thursday in the Glauber Rocha Hall, headquarters of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation.

As part of the awards gala for the best athletes of 2022, canoeist Yarisleidis Cirilo and judoka Andy Granda, both world champions this year, and in unconventional sport, Suslaidy Girat (athletics), Sheyla Samarian (judo) and Robiel Yanquiel Sol (athletics).

Cirilo thanked “everyone for giving us this vote of confidence and for helping us get this medal and these results. Also, he said, I want to congratulate the educators and tell them that in the future we will continue to bring medals.

The sport’s top athletes also had their special moment, including Arlenis Sierra (cycling), Leuris Pupo (sport shooting), Katherine Nuevo (canoeing), Serguey Torres (canoeing), Julio César La Cruz (boxing), Iván Silva ( judo), Idalys Ortiz (judo), Lázaro Martínez (athletics), Daniela Darriba (Basque pelota) and Carlos Daniel Albornoz (chess). And among the unconventional Leinier Savón (athletics), Ulises Aguilera (athletics), Guillermo Varona (athletics), Dalidayvis Rodríguez (judo), Juan Manuel Romero (judo), Yunier Fernández (table tennis), Leydi Rodríguez (weight), Manuel Alejandro del Rosario (badminton) and Laura Beatriz Yánez (badminton).

Among the groups, the boys of baseball5 received their prize, monarchs in the first world event of this modality, in addition to volleyball and softball. Likewise, canoeing and judo took home the cake, with the latter two being awarded as the best individual sports.

Niurkis Mora, Jesús Herrera and Alain Román were the most outstanding representatives in the group disciplines, while Cirilo herself and Katherin Nuevo were recognized as the non-individual event, a category in which the pair of divers led by Luis Gustavo received a mention. and Carlos Daniel Ramos.

The best athletes under contract and the referees were applauded, lists which this year included Arlenis Sierra (cycling), Miguel Ángel López (volleyball) and Raidel Martínez (baseball), on the one hand, and Jorge Luis Vega (athletics, best national ) and Yunior Sosa (fights, best international), on the other.

The gala was chaired by Jorge Luis Perdomo Di Lella, Deputy Prime Minister; Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of Inder, and Roberto León Richard, president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, among others.
