In a statement, the goalkeeper said: “As far as my contractual situation and my future are concerned, there were already open discussions with the club before the World Cup. We will resume this in the coming days as agreed.”

In plain language: His future is completely open!

The fact is: Borussia definitely doesn’t want to let him go in the winter. In the BILD interview, manager Roland Virkus (56) made it clear: “From our point of view, a transfer from Yann in winter is not an issue at all.” According to BILD information, however, the bosses are willing to talk from an offer of five million.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United are the hottest candidates in the race for the goalkeeper, whose contract expires in the summer (BILD reported). Bayern absolutely needs a new keeper because Manuel Neuer (36/broken leg) will be out until the end of the season.

But Borussia still has hopes of retaining its long-standing flagship. Coach Daniel Farke (46) recently said: “We want to extend the contract with him, we’re working on that.” His coach ennobled him before Christmas and even gave him legendary status at Borussia.

Sommer is in a quandary: at 34, he is no longer the youngest and is about to have his last contract. If he wants to win titles in the autumn of his career, Bayern would be the logical target.

As a replacement, he could become the undisputed number one champion, cup and even Champions League winner in the second half of the season. From the summer, however, he would have to face the competition with Manuel Neuer (37), who then recovered. It’s hard to believe that he’s going to face it – unless he can walk again in the summer.

Regardless of all speculation, Sommer trained at a secondary pitch and, instead of the obligatory final game, completed an individual session with goalkeeping coach Fabian Otte (32).

On the other hand, national player Jonas Hofmann (30) was missing. He completed the lactate test together with Joe Scally (19) and the returnees Nico Elvedi (26) and Ko Itakura (25). The quartet is expected back on the pitch tomorrow. Only Marcus Thuram (25) is still on World Cup vacation.

On the other hand, Lars Stindl (34) has to sit out. While Christoph Kramer (31), Hannes Wolf (23) and Rocco Reitz (20), keeper Jan Olschowsky (21) have recovered from their colds, the captain is still missing. Coach Daniel Farke (46): “Unfortunately, Lars caught a second infection and therefore has to sit out. We hope that he will come back soon.” Torben Müsel (23/cold) was also absent from training today.
