Elena Rybakina is in the round of 16 of the Madrid Open

374 days without defeat on clay. Okay, admittedly, the statistics are not very representative, because Elena Rybakina was unable to play in her third round match at the French Open last year due to illness, so an important element for such an unrestricted best performance is missing. Nevertheless, the Russian, who starts for Kazakhstan, is and remains one of the best players of the current generation on the clay surface. And she proves that at the WTA Tour 1000 event that is currently taking place in Madrid.

After her tournament success at the indoor clay court tournament in Stuttgart, Rybakina is already in the round of 16 of the highly prized tournament in the Spanish capital. On Sunday she gave her opponent from Egypt, Mayar Sherif, no real chance and won 6:1, 6:4. The next opponent for a place in the quarter-finals will be the young Czech Sara Bejlek, who previously fought her way through the qualification and was able to defeat the Russians Anna Blinkova and Anna Kalinskaya and the American Ashlyn Krueger in the main competition.

Another starter for Kazakhstan is also in the round of 16: Yulia Putintseva clearly defeated the American Caroline Dolehide 6:2, 6:2. In any case, the next opponent is a Russian – Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Daria Kasatkina are still playing their third round encounter.

Here is the individual tableau in Madrid.
