The Latvian couple is close to the semi-finals of the European Championship of Latin America

At the European Championship in Latin American (LA) dance held last weekend in Spain, the Latvian couple Vincencs Torremade and Megija Morīte ranked close to the semi-finals and won 14th place in the competition of 50 couples, informs Ivars Bācis, press secretary of the Latvian Sports Dance Federation.

Last weekend was full of important sports dance competitions. While in Salaspils the best 10 dances were determined at the world championship for young people, with Hardi Vakhtra and Karina Kārkliņa winning the 6th place, meanwhile, in the Spanish city of Calvia, the fight for the title of European champion for adults in LA dances took place, where the two best couples represented our country.

Last year, Vincencs Torremade and Megija Morīte from Riga (SDK “Mirada”) took 21st place in the European Championship, reaching the quarter-finals of the continental championship for the first time. They reached the quarter-finals again this year, showing their best result in Torremade’s native Spain. Vincenz and Maggie reached the third-round quarter-final, or the best 24, where they posted a score of 14, narrowly missing the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Latvia’s best 10 dance couple Romāns Dobretsovs and Violeta Levchenko (Smolko dance studio) won 30th place in their debut at the European Championship in the LA dance program. Last year they danced in the semi-finals in the twelfth place in the world championship in 10 dances, but in their strongest individual program in Standard dances this year they were among the quarter-finalists with 17th place.

The expected victory was won by the world leading couple of the last two years, Marius Balan and Kristina Moshenska from Germany, while the silver went to the French Charles Guillaume Smith and Jelena Salikova. The first medal went to Polish dancers Edgars Markos Borjas and Alina Novak, who won bronze in a similar fight. The Estonian couple Konstantins Gorodilovs and Polina Figurenko started much better than in 2021, entering the finals for the first time and taking 5th place. The final six were completed by the Romanians.

Both Lithuanian couples failed to overcome the first round, remaining behind the limit of 36.
