The Cuban baseball team summons for the first time two athletes who play in the United States

(EUROPA PRESS) -The Cuban Baseball Federation has announced this Monday that baseball players Andy Ibáñez (Texas Ranger); Yoan López (Arizona and New York Mets) and Elián Leyva (Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Mexico) are on the list of the Cuban team to participate in the V World Baseball Classic, a historic fact since Cuban baseball players had never been called up before to play outside of Cuba.

“We are pleased to announce that Andy Ibáñez (Texas Ranger), Yoan López (New York Mets) and Elián Leyva (Hermosillo Naranjeros) will be part of Cuba’s preselection for the V World Baseball Classic,” the Federation announced in a message posted on Twitter.

The Federation has informed of “exchanges with a list of athletes of interest and that it will inform in a timely manner about the results of the same, having their consent for it.”

The authorities began a dialogue with Major League Baseball months ago, to facilitate the call for Cuban athletes

The entity had indicated that they would have for the selection “stars from our Elite League and others who are active in international circuits.”

The Cuban federation itself had recently denounced the harassment, the attacks and the false news spread around the initial list of summoned for the international event.

The president of the FCB also mentioned the laws in force in the United States “against Cuban institutions” as obstacles to this call. That is why they began a dialogue with Major League Baseball months ago, to facilitate the call for Cuban athletes.

The V World Baseball Classic will be played between March 8 and 21 and is hosted by Taiwan, the United States and Japan.
