The Cubans Andy Granda (+100 kg), Iván Silva (90 kg), Maylín del Toro (63 kg) and Idalys Ortiz (+78 kg) They improved their positions in the Olympic qualification rankings after his performances in the recent Pan American and Oceania Judo Championships. Likewise, Jonathan Charón (60 kg) and Orlando Polanco (66 kg) kept their aspirations alive.

In the tournament held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro The Creoles won one gold medal and six bronzes, a performance below their performances in other similar tournaments. However, for those involved in the battle for classification, the event left interesting dividends.

Thus, Andy Granda added 700 points to his accumulated gold medal and rose to second place in the Olympic ranking, only surpassed by the Russian Inal Tasoev. This performance not only benefits him in his current location, but also strengthens him as one of the seeds when it comes to defining the draw in the French capital.

Similarly, Iván Silva converted his bronze into 350 units and consolidated himself in sixth place. That location, in addition to keeping it among the eight seeds for Paris 2024, guarantees peace of mind ahead of the closing of the qualification period next June.

For its part, Idalys Ortiz also took advantage of her third place to move up the list and separate herself from the last positions in the classification. With her bronzed metal, the four-time Olympic medalist rose to 21st place in the world ranking, far from 27th place, the last place until now with options to reach the summer event directly.

Something similar happened to Maylín del Toro, after returning to the direct qualifying zone after being away during the last update. Now the Cuban took good advantage of her bronze and appears in 20th place.

Along with this quartet, two other Creoles appear with options to fight for their Olympic places, although they must achieve optimal results in the upcoming tournaments. In such a way, Orlando Polanco appears in the 38th place and Jonathan Charón in the 40th.

For them The greatest aspiration is to add the greatest number of points possible and aspire to one of the places assigned through continental quotasa system created to allow judokas with good results to access the Olympic Games, without having to appear among those classified directly.

For now The next participation of Cuban judokas will be in the Astana Grand Slam. There, along with the sextet of those enrolled in the Olympic race, will also be the young girl Aleanny Carbonell (52 kg).
