A few months after signing partnerships with the MLB (Major Baseball League) and the NBA (National Basketball Association), Sorare, the fantasy game based on NFTs, has just signed a partnership with the Premier League on Thursday, October 27 . The French company will pay 30 million pounds sterling to obtain the rights to operate the most powerful professional football league in the world. Focus on a company that has continued to grow since its creation in October 2018.

Sorare x Premier League: a partnership soon to be finalized

Two weeks after launching Sister NBA, the French company would be close to reaching an agreement with the Premier League, up to 30 million euros per year. Information revealed Thursday by Sky News which specifies that a meeting was organized with the clubs of the English first division and that an agreement between all the stakeholders was close to being found. It is a collaboration expected for several months, on the side of the management team, but also of the users. Indeed, the arrival of the Premier League, the most powerful domestic football championship in the world, reinforces the credibility of the project and should allow the platform to attract a large number of new consumers.

Close sources managed to glean information on the progress of the negotiations. The contract that is about to be signed by Sorare would in fact replace an agreement with ConsenSys, a company specializing in the world of blockchain and new forms of digital economy. This agreement was about to be signed earlier this year, but Sorare and its CEO, Nicolas Julia, beat the American company by offering a more advantageous contract. Bet won for the French startup which will now be able to market cards bearing the image of Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, among others.

Sorare, what is it exactly?

Sorare is a French company created in October 2018, which offers a gaming platform in which it is possible to buy virtual cards (NFTs) of football, basketball and baseball players, in order to use them in competitions in which it is possible to collect rewards according to its classification. A method of operation decried and regularly compared to sports betting, however, the reality is quite different. Nicolas Julia, its founder, wishes above all to create a game accessible to all, with the aim of bringing together a community of enthusiasts around the same sport.

A growing platform

To acquire the notoriety and legitimacy that Sorare enjoys today, the French startup has built itself little by little, through partnerships with the biggest football leagues in the world. The first contract was signed with the Jupiler Pro Ligue, the first division of the Belgian championship, before other agreements with bigger institutions were made: Ligue 1, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A, among others. Only the Premier League was missing among the five major European championships, it is now done.

To achieve this, Sorare has exported itself beyond European borders, with the aim of diversifying its offer and strengthening its legitimacy. The goal ? Develop its gaming platform internationally. It is therefore in this logic that the company has set out to attack the American leagues. A contract with the MLB (Major Baseball League) was signed on July 19, before the NBA (National Basketball Association) joined the dance on October 18, to the delight of US sports fans.

At the same time, Sorare wanted to associate his image with the greatest athletes on the planet. Zinédine Zidane, Rudy Gobert, Kylian Mbappé, Aaron Judge, Blake Griffin… All have joined the adventure and are strengthening the credibility of the Parisian company internationally. A first step forward, which will probably call for others, that’s for sure.
