Checkers school “Domātprieks” takes home nine awards from the world championship

Pēteris Kripans, a student of the checkers school “Domātprieks” and master’s candidate, achieved incredible success, winning three championship titles in all disciplines – classical, fast checkers and quick game, thus becoming a three-time world champion in the age group under 14 years. In total, 22 participants from nine countries participated in this group. Master’s candidate Alise Misāne became the world champion in the age group up to 9 years old in classical and rapid checkers, as well as the bronze medalist in rapid chess. In this age group, the championship was held for the first time, with the participation of nine participants from 5 countries. Master candidate Malvīne Misāne became the world champion in the U13 group in classical checkers, as well as the bronze laureate in fast checkers, competing in the age group with the largest number of participants – 30 and representing a total of 13 countries. The bronze medal in rapid checkers was won by Maksims Novitkis in the age group up to 11 years, where 18 boys from 9 countries took part.

The Latvian national team from the checkers school “Domātprieks” was also represented by Polina Gerasimova in the under-17 girls group, Ernests Kalniņš and Kārlis Kalējs in the under-14 group. They did not manage to win medals this time, but gained good experience and motivation to strive for high achievements in the future.

Olesja Adullina, the head coach of the checkers school “Domātprieks” and head of the school, is proud of her high achievements. Titled checkers players Roberts Misāns and Guntis Valneris also helped the athletes to achieve high results.

In total, the youth of the Latvian national team won 19 awards at the championship – seven gold, six silver and six bronze medals. In the championship with classical time control, in the competition of 19 countries, the Latvian national team won second place, while in quick checkers and quick game, they also won second place in the overall ranking among the national teams of 17 countries.
