Xavi’s Barça would have won the last two Leagues

Xavi Hernández has added 87 points in the first 38 days of the League, which are the games that complete the domestic championship during a season. With these numbers on the table, it so happens that he equals the points in Pep Guardiola’s first season as coach, 2008/09, where he won the title, and also equals the Argentine Tata Martino, who lost the championship in the last working day.

Only Tito Vilanova (100), Luis Enrique (94), Ernesto Valverde (93) and Helenio Herrera (90) have added more points in the League in their first year on the Barcelona benchwhich clearly demonstrates the good performance of Xavi’s team in this championship.

In fact, these 87 points that Xavi has won in his first 38 league games would help him win the title in the last two seasons. And it is that Real Madrid conquered the last one, with 86 points, while Atlético did it in the 2020/21 campaign, with 86 too. Real Madrid won the 2019/20 season with 87 points, the same points that helped lift Valverde’s Barcelona to the title a year earlier. In these last two championships, it is not possible to discern who would have been the winner, comparing it with Xavi, as they could not make the assessments in the individual matches.

In any case, it seems evident that the numbers that Xavi exhibits in LaLiga are from a champion team. Last season he took the ninth team eleven points behind the leader and came to put Real Madrid in trouble at some stage of the course, finally finishing second in the table. In this course, he became the leader in two days and now he is just one point behind Real Madridhaving signed the best start to the season in the last five years, adding ten wins, a draw and a defeat, with Robert Lewandowski as the leading top scorer, 13 goals, and Ter Stegen, as the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded, after having left in ten occasions the goal to zero.

Of course, Xavi would not have been able to breathe Valverde’s neck in his first year at Barcelona (2017/18), where he only lost one game throughout the season, adding 99 goals, and reaching 93 points.
