Salvador Cases Roca: A Rising Star in Judo World Championships

Once again, the month of May is turning out to be vibrant and prolific. The events happen with hardly any continuity solution. Furthermore, they are competitions of great relevance and significance. This is the case of the Judo World Championship, a tournament that will be held in Abu Dhabi from this Sunday, the 19th, until Thursday, May 23. Many of the participants in this contest decide a large part of their Olympic options. Many, not all. There are some exceptions. There are some privileged ones. For example, Salvador Cases Roca. The FER athlete (Alicante, 25 years old, minus 73 kg category) has already assured his presence at the Paris Games. Therefore, during 2024, Cases has been more selective. He has chosen to put training and preparation before competitions.

During the last two seasons, the Alicante judoka has accumulated six great international successes. In 2022, Cases won three podiums: a silver in the Portuguese Grand Prix, and two bronzes in the Turkish and Abu Dhabi Grand Slams. In 2023, he won a bronze in the Tbilisi Grand Slam and a silver in the European Championship in France. Finally, in 2024, he shone again in the Portuguese Grand Prix and repeated the silver achieved in 2022. Regarding his balance in World Championships, the FER athlete has competed in three universal competitions: in 2021, in Budapest, He was seventh after winning three rounds and losing in the quarterfinals and in the subsequent repechage. In 2022, in Uzbekistan, he fell in the first fight. Finally, last year, he finished ninth after being beaten in the round of 16 by Canadian Arthur Margelidon. Now, he has a new opportunity to rise above and send a message a few weeks before Paris 2024. In Abu Dhabi, he will compete on Monday, May 20.
