Paolo Banchero wants to honor his roots and represent Italy!

While making a great start to the season for his discovery of the Great League, Paolo Banchero has just declared his love for Italy. For the Orlando player, everything is very clear, he wants to represent the Squadra Azzurra and honor his Italian roots by making the cover of The Gazetta dello Sport.

Italy, its history, its culture… everyone dreams of it and we all know someone who tries to pretend to be a child of the boot in order to shine in society. Paolo Banchero doesn’t need that since his Italian roots are distant, but very real. Born in Seattle in 2002, the interior of the Magic (2m08, 113 kg) is linked to the country of Julius Caesar – be careful, you have to concentrate – by the great grandfather of his father, his great great grandfather . So this is very good news for the Italian federation which will win, in the near future, the services of a player full of qualities and who is only 19 years old. Despite his young age, Paolo Banchero is already playing like a real rogue and his adaptation to the League is going very well so far. In seven games – including six at 20 points or more – the Italian-American is averaging 22.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists, more than solid for those who have been in contact with the Italian basketball authorities for a few years, as he confided in the podcast « Young Person’s » from teammate RJ Hampton:

“When I was 16, the Italian national team contacted my father. They wanted to know if he had Italian roots, if I could get Italian citizenship. My dad said yes and then it all started, I flew several times to meet them at the Italian Embassy in San Francisco. We had several meetings and I ended up getting my passport […] I don’t know when yet, but I intend to play for Italy. I’ve never been there but the amount of love I get from there is crazy. It’s crazy and I can’t wait to go to Italy. »

The love story between Paolo Banchero and Italy has already begun and given the passion of our transalpine neighbors, it could be beautiful. The addition of Banchero would in any case be a big plus for Italy, which has already shown great things during the last Euro. The adventure would have lasted longer if a certain Simone Fontecchio had not trembled on the throwing line… but let’s not stir up the past and let’s focus instead on the future, with a future that could therefore be ambitious for the ‘Italy. The guy could make his first appearance in the jersey of the Blue Team next September for the 2023 World Cup. By then, Paolo Banchero will certainly have confirmed the extent of his potential by winning a Rookie of the Year trophy which he will then present to a jubilant crowd on the Piazza Navona.

Paolo Banchero will therefore honor his roots by playing for Italy in international competitions. The Orlando rookie has already been in contact with the Italian federation for a while and his contribution will be a real plus for the transalpine selection. See you in 2023 for its potential debut!
