Nevertheless, the VfB bosses around CEO Alexander Wehrle (47) have to put up with the question of whether their decision is too late. The negative development of the team could already be seen in the second half of last season, when VfB only avoided relegation with a lot of luck.
That’s why it’s now important to be really consistent!
The new coach will want to know who to work with in the next few years, what the common strategy is.
But the contract of sports director Sven Mislintat (49), whose job is not only to put together the squad but also to search for the successor to his coaching buddy Matarazzo, only runs until the summer of 2023.
So VfB would either have to extend the contract quickly with Mislintat – or part with him straight away.
Which is more likely?
