the disappointment of Walide Khyar released in the third round

The Frenchman was released prematurely in the under 66 kg category.

Frenchman Walide Khyar was eliminated in the third round of the World Judo Championships in the under 66 kg category on Friday in Tashkent.

Khyar seemed to have gotten the better of his opponent, leading to penalties, but it only took one overtime action from world eighth-placed Israeli Baruch Shmailov for him to win.

«It’s cruel, it’s the lot of our sport and the high level“, regretted Christophe Gagliano, manager of the men’s team. “There are five minutes of combat which are very good from Walide with a respected tactical plan and a small relaxation on just one sequence and that is what is fatal».

Walide Khyar, who recently moved up the weight class, was very upset after his fight. “I’m sad, I find it hard to speak“, he said. “I don’t know why it does this to me. It may be too much».

«I have rarely felt in a shape like this. The preparation went well. I knew I was going to arrive ready and that’s what’s the hardest part. I felt like it was my day and the fact that it didn’t go like that is what’s hard to take“explained the 27-year-old judoka.
