Dennis Schröder after missing the start of training before returning to the Los Angeles Lakers

Dennis Schröder will apparently join the Los Angeles Lakers training camp next week after missing the start of training. Meanwhile, the Lakers “Big Three” are looking to take a new direction after a disappointing preseason.

Like Dave McMenamin from ESPN reported, the Lakers assume that Schröder will join the team in the middle of next week. So far he has not been able to take part in the training camp due to difficulties with his visa, but a solution to the problem appears to be on the horizon.

In training camp, under new head coach Darvin Ham, he is likely to have a chance to fight his way to the starting point guard position. Rumors have been circulating in recent weeks that Russell Westbrook could also come off the bench.

So far, however, Coach Ham has preferred a starting five with Westbrook alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the training sessions. Guard Kendrick Nunn and center Damian Jones also saw plenty of practice minutes as starters, according to the report. The interaction between the three stars Westbrook, James and Davis was problematic last season, but now Ham said: “I trust these three guys.”

AD, meanwhile, explained the trio’s new strategy: “Last year everyone tried to play selflessly, now everyone is playing aggressively. Russ, you get the ball and go! LeBron, you get the ball and go! I get the ball and go! That was very helpful for us.”

Los Angeles Lakers: Will the Big Three Work With Westbrook?

Of course, all three would continue to be “selfless teammates,” “but at the same time, we have to get rolling,” Davis stressed. “It’s the biggest change we’ve wanted to see so far. No matter who gets the ball, be aggressive. It also opens up space for everyone else.”

Various injuries meant that the trio of Westbrook, James and Davis could only play 21 games together last season. In those games, LA was 11-10. The Lakers missed the postseason at the end of the season, and there were a lot of trade rumors about Westbrook throughout the summer. But its trade value is in the basement, the Lakers have not been able to find a suitable deal.
