Tennis: Novak Djokovic wins in Tel Aviv against Marin Cilic

“Nole” has taken care of his return. Absent from official tournaments since his coronation at Wimbledon last July, Novak Djokovic was crowned in Tel Aviv by winning quite easily in the final against Marin Cilic in two sets (6-3, 6-4) and 1h34. The Serb, who did not concede a single round in Israel, won his 89th career title.

To perfect this success, he took advantage of the excitement of the Croatian, guilty of three double faults at the start of the game, to break quickly, and lead 3-1. The world number 7 then mastered his match and even woke up by foiling the only break point obtained by his opponent, dismissing him with an ace. He thus became the first player to win three titles on three different surfaces this season on the ATP Tour (Rome on clay, Wimbledon on grass and Tel Aviv on hard).

The Serb missed the US Open because he is not vaccinated against Covid-19. He had shown himself in form during the Laver Cup, the competition organized by Roger Federer.
