Bucaramanga celebrates: Club Bucaros is the champion of the U-21 Basketball League!

This Monday, Club Búcaros became champion of the Colombian Development League, the main under-21 tournament of national basketball.

The Santandereans got the title, after beating Tigrillos de Medellín in the final of the championship by 82 to 77.

The tournament was played in Medellín, at the Iván de Bedout Coliseum, which hosted all the championship matches.

To reach the final, Búcaros beat group B, which also included Universidad de Medellín, Cóndores, and Liga del Valle. Tigrillos, meanwhile, passed in zone A, which it shared with Cóndores B, Caribbean Storm Island and INDER Envigado.

In the semifinals, Búcaros defeated Caribbean Storm Island, while Tigrillos did the same against Cóndores.

In the final, the Santandereans were far superior to the Antioquenos and dominated all quarters of the match, with a double-digit difference in the score for the longest amount of time in the match. However, towards the end of the game, Tigrillos pressed and almost equalized the match, although Búcaros knew how to hold on and took the result.

The WPlay League announces a new format

Week of news in Colombian basketball, since, in addition to the Development League, this week the WPlay League also moved.

The Professional Basketball Division (DPB) announced that the championship will start from September 17 and will go until November 23 in case there is a fifth game in the play off final.

In total, there will be 10 teams that will be divided into two zones. On the one hand, in group A will be:

  • Barranquilla Titans
  • Bucaramanga bucaros
  • Corsairs of Cartagena
  • Caribbean Storm Islands
  • Ocelots of Medellin

On the other hand, in group B the teams will be:

  • Maroons from Chocó
  • Cundinamarca Condors
  • Bogota Pirates
  • Sages of Manizales
  • Team Cali

The favorite for the title is Titanes de Barranquilla, who has accumulated six championships in a row and is looking for his seventh crown.

The most important thing about the new season is that the league will abandon the bubble system and Colombian basketball will return to the round trip system in all the cities of the country.
