Always Play for 30 Minutes, Antoine Griezmann’s Contract Praise At Atletico Madrid Vs Barcelona

Los Rojiblancos can circumvent the ‘ridiculous’ Blaugrana clause in the playmaker’s contract, but Barca don’t seem to accept it.

Barcelona are rumored to be preparing a lawsuit against Atletico Madrid over their stance on Antoine Griezmann’s buyout clause.

For the fifth time, the France international has played no more than 30 minutes, with Griezmann most recently coming on in the 61st minute of the game. The Rojiblancos against FC Porto in the Champions League.

Despite entering in the second half, Griezmann was the decisive factor in Atletico’s victory over Porto. He scored the winner in the 90+11 minute to give his team all three points.

However, what Atletico did to Griezmann seems to have offended Barca.

The forward is on his second loan spell at the Wanda Metropolitano, and there is a mandatory purchase option in the contract for €40 million.

The mandatory purchase option will be active if Griezmann plays more than 50 percent of the total matches played by Atletico.

In this clause, it not only explains the number of matches, but also Griezmann’s playing minutes.

And because The Rojiblancos felt the price of €40 million was too high, so they outsmarted it by playing Griezmann for no more than one round.

Barcelona doesn’t accept

Atlético’s ‘dirty’ trick seems to have caught the attention of Barca, who will take the matter to court.

Quoted from SportBarca will sue The Rojiblancos to redeem Griezmann because they have fulfilled the clause.

From Barca’s point of view, Atletico must buy Griezmann after he played more than 50 per cent of games last season, so the clause will be active. And last season, the 31-year-old played 39 games in all competitions for The Rojiblancos.

In addition, Barca also considered that the initial agreement for Griezmann’s loan was only for one year with an option for another year, not a direct loan for two years.

Therefore, the Catalans feel that Griezmann’s mandatory purchase clause has been fulfilled last season.

Obviously it will be a problem for Atletico to shell out €40m, given that they are currently struggling to stabilize their finances.

However, the same report also states that the Atletico directors are quite calm to see the news and are not afraid of Barca’s arguments in court later.
