München The captain of the German national team will miss the next two Bundesliga games due to a small operation on his left foot. In view of the eagerly awaited two quarter-finals in the premier class on April 12 and 18 against the Spanish champions Madrid, the forced suspension of his world-class goalkeeper is worrying news for coach Carlo Ancelotti.

As Bayern announced on Thursday, Neuer had to undergo a small operation due to a training injury on Wednesday evening. The operation on the 31-year-old went well, but the national goalkeeper will initially be absent from FC Bayern on Saturday against FC Augsburg and on Tuesday at 1899 Hoffenheim. The goalkeeper could then celebrate his real dress rehearsal on April 8 in the German classic against Borussia Dortmund.

Optimal preparation for the crucial weeks of this season looks different for Neuer. The 74-time international player had to miss the first two international matches of the year against England and Azerbaijan due to calf problems. The DFB captain was treated in Munich instead.

The situation is unusual for the robust newcomer. He has so far been spared from really serious injuries in his professional career. However, before the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Neuer suffered a shoulder injury in the DFB Cup final and was only able to travel to the national team’s training camp with a delay.
