NBA Finals: Viewership up 22 percent

U.S. viewership for the 2022 National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals increased 22 percent year over year, averaging 12.4 million viewers.

Figures from analytics firm Nielsen mean the Finals series was the most-watched NBA Finals in three years.

The Golden State Warriors’ Game Six victory was watched by an average of 13.99 million viewers on Disney-owned commercial broadcaster ABC, peaking at 16.82 million viewers. Game six’s ratings were 75 percent higher than its nearest televised competition.

The 2022 NBA Finals also generated the highest market share for the event since 2017. One in five viewers who watched game night watched the NBA Finals on ABC.

In addition, the six NBA Finals broadcasts on ABC are now among the six most-watched programs for June 2022.
