THE DOUBLE WORLD CHAMPIONS MARÍA PÉREZ AND ÁLVARO MARTÍN, AWARDED AS THE BEST ATHLETES OF 2023

The Spanish athletics family has gathered in the Goyeneche auditorium at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee to honor the best of 2023, in a Gala that will go down in history as the “Gala de la Marcha” winning five awards from the present and future .

María Pérez and Álvaro Martín, The two-time world champions of the 20 km and 25 km walk collected a prize that was no less emotional because it was expected. Best athletes of 2023. His performances last year, with the four gold medals in Budapest, elevating #EspañaAtletismo to third position in the medal table, will be remembered forever. In their speeches, both Álvaro and María remembered their coaches, the main architects of his success. Both, both Jose Antonio Carrillo (Alvaro’s coach), as Jacinto Garzón (María’s coach), were awarded the José Luis Torres Award for Best Coach of 2023. In addition, two more walkers took the stage to collect an award: Sofía Santacreu and Daniel Monfort received the “Generación Atletismo” Best Athletes Award, to reward those athletes with the greatest progression.

The Spanish Athletics Gala was attended by Mónica García, Minister of Health, as well as the host, the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, along with the President of the RFEA, Raúl Chapado.
