no Stelvio due to avalanche risk

The organizers of the Cycling Tour of Italy announced Tuesday May 14 that the Stelvio, one of its most legendary passes and the highest point this year, will not be climbed during this 107th edition due to avalanche risks. The pass, perched at 2,758 m, was on the program for the 16th stage between Livigno and Santa Cristina Valgardena on May 21. Instead of the Stelvio, the peloton will pass by the Giogo di Santa Maria, the new roof of this Giro at an altitude of 2,489 m, during this stage which will now be 206 km instead of the 202 km initially planned.
