De Bruyne or Silva? Two English consultants are fighting over who is the best player in Manchester City’s history

Kevin De Bruyne once again splashed his class in the Champions League match between Manchester City and Atlético Madrid. With his goal, the Belgian allowed the Citizens to leave with a slight advantage for the return leg. After the match, Jamie Carragher did not hide his admiration for the Belgian midfielder: “For me, De Bruyne is the best midfielder on the planet. He is a source of absolute joy while not making waves off the pitch and remaining very humble”he explained on the set of CBS Sports.

The former Liverpool defender went even further: “For me, De Bruyne is the best player in the history of Manchester City”, asking at the same time his opinion to Micah Richards, also a consultant for CBS Sports and former Citizens player. This statement was not to the taste of the former full-back. At least not yet: “If he wins the Champions League with City, I would probably agree with you. On the other hand, even if he stays at the same level but never wins the trophy, I would say that a David Silva is better, even a Yaya Touré”, he reacted to Carragher’s disapproval, explaining that neither of these two players has also won the Champions League. “You can’t just dismiss the magician that was David Silva”Richards added then.

Carragher then resumed his argument: “The difference between De Bruyne and Silva is that the Belgian is the best player in the world at his position, while that has never been the case with Silva.” The debate ignited on the set and Richards responded tit for tat to the new assertion of his comrade: “I don’t agree with you! We’re talking about different times here. Ten years ago De Bruyne wasn’t there. On the other hand, at the time of Silva, there was Modric or Iniesta who did amazing stuff.”

“Right now, if you asked a Manchester City fan which player they would choose, I’m sure they would take David Silva”finally concluded Richards who played 246 games with the Citizens in his career.
