Situation Celtics (2. Platz)

Thanks to an outstanding and impressive performance in Round 1 of the playoffs, the Celtics even go into their series against the Milwaukee Bucks as favorites. The injured players returned in Round 1, Jayson Tatum made another step up towards the top player and Jaylen Brown proved to be an almost equal second option. Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart, solidified the defense and role players Horford, Theis, White, Williams and Pritchard continued to prove their value to the team. With Ime Udoka there is also an outstanding coach on the sidelines, so that the Celtics can have legitimate hopes of a successful series against the reigning champions.

Situation Bucks (3. Platz)

Unfortunately, the atmosphere in Milwaukee is not quite as good as that of the Celtics, even though they were also able to clearly beat the Chicago Bulls. However, Khris Middleton injured his knee and is very likely to miss the entire second round. The Bucks should not be underestimated, however, as they showed the best performances in the first round without their wingers. Antetokounmpo’s game (28.6 points, 13.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game) was of course the main reason for Milwaukee’s success and he will be highly motivated to assert himself against the Celtics’ versatile defense. But it will be above all the role players who are in demand, also to compensate for Middleton’s absence.

Jayson Tatum vs Giannis Antetokounmpo. A duel that fans will expect to see more often in the years to come. Although the two do not play in the same position, the future of the league belongs to the 24-year-old Tatum and the 27-year-old Giannis. Giannis, as MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Champion and Finals MVP, obviously has more success to his name, but Tatum always does well when it comes to head-to-head with Superstars, as we saw in Round 1 against Kevin Durant and the Nets. Still, there’s minimal advantage for the Bucks here because Tatum isn’t quite as dominant as Antetokounmpo.

With Williams III, Horford and Theis he can also set up various big-man against Giannis and the versatility and throwing power on the offensive will pose problems for the Bucks.
