Offseason Uncertainty: Rumors Surrounding Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen’s Future with the Cleveland Cavaliers

Since the elimination of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Playoffs, the rumors have continued. There is great uncertainty surrounding the Donovan Mitchell case, but it is not the only one. Jarrett Allen may also no longer be in Ohio next season. The former All-Star has his share of courtiers.

Never has there been so much activity in Clevaland since LeBron James left. Before that, it was during the return of LeBron James. Before that it was because of the departure of LeBron James and before that it was the LeBron James Draft. The city and one man’s franchise have been in turmoil since his elimination against the Boston Celtics. The team’s superstar, Donovan Mitchell, is in all the rumors and the rest of the Cavaliers’ summer will be closely linked to his decision.

Unless there is a huge surprise, he should be offered an extension of $208.5 million over four years. If he were to refuse it and although he could only become a free agent in 2025, “Spida” could well leave to weave his web elsewhere. But if, on the contrary, he accepted it, Evan Dammarell, journalist at Right Down Euclid, thinks the departures of Darius Garland and Jarrett would be hasty. The pivot would already interest many franchises:

“Jarrett Allen has been linked to the New Orleans Pelicans for some time, with sources telling Right Down Euclid that the Oklahoma City Thunder and Sacramento Kings could be interested in the former All-Star.”

The Kings, Thunder and Pelicans are expected to show interest in Jarrett Allen, per @AmNotEvan

“The general vibe across the league according to sources is that Allen and Garland are the two who could become available for the right price if Mitchell re-signs with the Cavaliers.… pic.twitter.com/nDEY76nVgc

“The Fro” would be a younger and more mobile alternative to Jonas Valanciunas on the New Orleans side. And even if many imagine an interior capable of deviating like fit ideal with Zion Williamson in order to give the latter control of the paint, Jarrett Allen would greatly help in defense and his speed could allow space to be left for his power forward.

Whether in Oklahoma City or in Sacramento, the reason is less obvious on paper even if at the moment Chet Holmgren and Domantas Sabonis are a little isolated in the rackets of the two teams. The Cavaliers player would bring another profile and could allow his two sidekicks to play a few minutes on position 4.

Jarrett Allen is still under contract with Cleveland, however. He has two seasons left at $20 million each.
