The Undersecretary of Sports and Recreation, dependent on the Government Secretariat of the Municipality of Córdoba, has everything set up so that this weekend, the neighbors can enjoy a 3×3 basketball event that will be held in the Plaza of the Intendancy.
The event, which on this occasion is called the “Parada ciudad de Córdoba”, is organized by the Association of Clubs of the National Basketball League and takes place in different parts of the country.
The “Parada ciudad de Córdoba” will take place this Saturday, March 12, in the Plaza de la Intendencia, between 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and the following teams will participate: Barrio Parque, Independiente de Oliva, San Isidro de San Francisco, Ameghino de Villa Maria , Atenas and Instituto among other clubs in Córdoba and in the interior of the country.
The Municipality of Córdoba, which supports these initiatives by putting sporting activity at the service of the residents of the capital, whether to practice it or to enjoy it from a stand, collaborates for this event with the organization’s logistics.
The appointment for Saturday is a nice opportunity to enjoy this growing basketball activity. The Paradas circuit began last March 5 in Viedma (Río Negro), continues this weekend in Córdoba and will continue in Mar del Plata (March 19), Santiago del Estero (March 26), venue to be defined (2 April), Corrientes (April 9) and venue to be defined (April 23).
In each Parade, teams qualify for the final phase that will be played on April 23, with a venue to be confirmed. The champion of the grand final will participate in an international contest organized by FIBA.
So far, Ameghino, Obras and Gimnasia de Rosario are the teams qualified for the grand final of the tournament that will crown the season champion.
The 3×3 League is for people over 20 years of age, and it can be any player who represents the club, they do not necessarily have to be a federated player.
What is 3×3 basketball?
It is an incipient modality of basketball that began to have a lot of diffusion and practice in our country and was incorporated as an Olympic sport in the Tokyo 2020 Games, which due to the Covid-19 pandemic, were held in the Japanese capital between July 23 and August 8, 2021.
In the first edition of the Olympic 3×3, Argentina did not qualify because it was far behind in the ranking. It appeared in position 57, far from position 40 that enabled the teams to play the pre-Olympic.
The first Olympic champion in this discipline was Latvia, who beat ROC (Russia) 21-18, while the bronze went to the Serbian team (they beat Belgium 21-10).
In women, the United States team (gold) beat ROC (silver) 18-15 and China defeated France 16-14 and took the silver medal.
3×3 basketball is played on a single field (15 meters wide by 11 meters long) of the normal court and in a single basket. Three players per team participate, with a substitute each and the winner is the one who first reaches 21 points or more in 10 minutes. In case of a tie, extra time will be played where the first team to score two points will win.
Unlike traditional basketball, in 3×3 there is no initial jump, but the start (as in soccer) is made heads or tails with the toss of a coin.
Possession lasts 12 seconds and each score is worth one point, while scoring from further away from the three-point line adds two units.
