Before playing in the 2022 edition of Roland-Garros, the Spaniard Rafael Nadal will take part in the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona.
Rafael Nadal refines his calendar. Before returning to his favorite Grand Slam tournament, namely Roland-Garros, for a potential fourteenth future coronation, the Spaniard, now 35 years old and eliminated in the semi-finals last year by Novak Djokovic, will play the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona, according to the announcement made by the organizers of this competition, no later than this Wednesday. An event scheduled for next month, and which will even begin on April 16, a little over a month before the start of Roland-Garros, scheduled for the end of May. Today the fourth player in the world, the Majorcan knows this Barcelona tournament perfectly well, having already won it twelve times, since his first coronation which dates back to 2005.
Nadal is undefeated this season
In the same press release announcing this news, the Spaniard David Ferrer, a former professional player, notably with a final at the 2013 edition of Roland-Garros, and now director of this famous tournament, thus declared in particular: “Having Rafa at Barcelona are very exciting for the tournament and expectations will be high as to how far they can go.” Since the start of this 2022 tennis season, the Spaniard Rafael Nadal has been in very good shape. The Mallorcan has played a total of three tournaments, for three trophies raised. The most prestigious obviously remains that of the 2022 edition of the Australian Open, last January, with a stunning victory in the final against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, after being down two sets to zero. This allowed the main interested party to win his 21st Grand Slam title and overtake the Swiss Roger Federer but also the Serbian Novak Djokovic. Just before, Nadal had won a tournament in Melbourne, before doing it again, no later than this Sunday, February 27, on the side of Acapulco. In fifteen games already played this season, the Spaniard is therefore simply undefeated.
