Belgian-Ukrainian Zanevska loses heavy and emotional match against Ukrainian Kostyuk | WTA-Indian Wells(US)

Last week Zanevska, who has been playing for Belgium since 2016, posted an emotional message on Instagram. “I was born in Odessa and my family is still in Ukraine,” she wrote. “I worry about my family and friends. And I worry about this world. This hatred between people will have consequences for centuries to come.”

Still, Zanevska tries to focus on her sport and in Indian Wells she was presented with a duel against Marta Kostyuk. Not only a tough sport, but also emotionally because Kostyuk is Ukrainian.

Both players entered the field in yellow and blue colors and after the match there was a warm hug. The match itself lasted no less than 3 hours and 6 minutes. In set 1, Zanevska won after the tiebreak, in set two we got the reverse scenario.

Zanevska was leading 5-3 in set 3, but Kostyuk came back and went through the service of our compatriot twice more. After 38 games, the emotional match was over.
