Club Brugge has more than 33 million left over from the Champions League

Club Brugge’s European season has come to an end after the 4-1 defeat against PSG. Blauw-Zwart has more than 33 million euros left over from the Champions League campaign. A substantial amount, but not even half of the income that Dutch champion Ajax has already insured.

Before the group stage, Club Brugge was already assured of a starting premium of 15.64 million euros. Based on its results in that group stage, it will cash an additional 3.73 million euros in premiums: 2.8 million for the win in Leipzig, 930,000 euros for the draw against PSG. The UEFA coefficient bonus provides Club Brugge with approximately 8 million euros, while a combination of TV rights and ticket sales provides another 6 million euros.

That’s quite a bit of extra cash, but it still stands in stark contrast to what the Dutch champion Ajax has already earned so far. The team from Amsterdam is already almost at 70 million euros in income from the Champions League. Where does that difference come from? The starting premium of 15.64 million euros is the same. But because of the eighteen out of eighteen in the group stage, Ajax receives no less than 16.8 million euros in profit premiums. An additional 9.6 million euros is added as a bonus for the qualifications for the eighth finals. The UEFA coefficient bonus, which rewards teams for European performances in the past, amounts to no less than 20 million euros for Ajax. The rest comes from TV rights and ticketing. For example, the difference with Club Brugge amounts to no less than 34.67 million euros.
