At the end of a long Sunday of passion, forced by bad weather to postpone the long-awaited last performance several times, the Esordienti team of Ferrara Baseball closed the 2021 season on Sunday 3 October by imposing themselves within the walls of the brave opponents of San Lazzaro; a success that extends the streak of consecutive victories of the ducals to seven, and above all the mathematical conquest of first place in the group is valid – at this point the recoveries at stake between own and direct opponents challenges are irrelevant, appointments on which Giove Pluvio has been ruthless since from May.
Once again, the double confrontation offered the public a true spectacle, given the very young age of the athletes on the field. Game one starts on the edge of balance: S. Lazzaro stretches in the second inning and at the last attack Ferrara is three points down; the skein unravels Giorgio Anzelotti, who with full bases and with two eliminated achieves the miraculous homerun that is worth the final overtaking (6-5 for the duke). Consistent script in race two: the guests react with a masculine test in attack, making the two best lines of the day; the hosts build points one base after another, and hold on to defense when the pressure builds. At the chilling penultimate fraction (4 points conceded, last overtaking by others), the little Ferrarese reply with a practically perfect last defense, with three valuable assists on first base Favara (final 9-7).
Starting in fits and starts in April, but remained undefeated in the second half of the season, Ferrara Baseball thus conquers the highest podium in an official competition for the first time in its history. A goal not even imagined at the start, now a page to be indelibly engraved in the abum of memories. According to the technicians of the group, the veteran Marzaduri and the surprising Giulia Morsiani, on her first official bench, “A goal that rewards the commitment and passion of young athletes, the culmination of a three-year long cycle and not without difficulties.
On the day when in addition to the chicks, the sisters Dafne and Maia Villani are also celebrated, under 13 national vice-champions with the Rovigo jersey, the Association looks to the future, ready to archive a two-year period of lights and shadows with solid proposals and important news, as explained by the number one from Ferrara and FIBS Regional President, Edmondo Squarzanti: “The pandemic has brought many sports realities to their knees. Ours has held firm, and the result of these children is the best thing we could hope for. Now it is already time to start again, to leave uncertainties and hesitations behind, and to finally make the leap in quality ”. Ferrara Baseball is renewed. “The Members’ Assembly is convened for mid-October, to coincide with the start of the new training course. We will present to families an ambitious project: we cannot reveal every detail yet, but we anticipate important investments in the technical area and in the structures. In terms of quality and quantity, we will double the training offer without increasing the costs for families by a cent ”. Even the Marrara Sports Center, which has been home to baseball in the city for three years, could one day light up with a new light: “The Institutions support and support us; in addition to continuing the activity in schools, we will soon present to the Municipality a beautiful project that focuses on inclusion and equal opportunities. And one day soon, also thanks to possible new investors, we could transform our facilities into a real stadium ”.
