Paul Barjon crosses the cut, Jon Rahm and Kevin Na by the wayside

For his first tournament of the season on the PGA Tour Paul Barjon fulfilled part of the contract by crossing the cut which is not the case with world number 1 Jon Rahm visibly not well recovered from his indigestion on Wednesday

At the head of the tournament the young American Maverick McNealy 25 years old made the best card of this 2nd round (64) despite three consecutive bogeys thanks in particular to a wedge entered for eagle at 18 of the Silverado Resort and Spa course located in the Napa Valley in California.

Without a win in 66 career starts on the PGA Tour, McNealy also had nine birdies and has a 2-stroke lead at mid-tournament on Beau Hossler also author of a splendid 64 Friday and the Chilean Myth Pereira. The rookie of the year Will Zalatoris (67) gained 6 places and climbed to 4th place.

The leader of the first round At Reavie played 10 more strokes than the day before (75) and fell to 38th place.

Le show Mickelson

Phil Mickelson will also be present this weekend at the end of a second round where the fifty-year-old once again put on the show, especially at mid-term when the left-hander made 3 birdies in 4 holes. After having cracked the head of his wood 3, Mickelson again distinguished himself. He played his driver in the undergrowth of 16 to get his 5th and last birdie of the day, synonymous with a 69 card.

Rahm in trouble

The news of the day is also the premature elimination of world number 1 Jon Rahm, of whom it is simply the 2nd missed cut of the year 2021 after Wells Fargo in May.

It’s not a very good sign sent by the Spaniard with a week before the first Ryder Cup doubles session but Rahm suffered an upset stomach earlier in the week.

“The explanation for this missed cut is quite simple. I didn’t hit the ball very well, I lacked concentration and I didn’t put in any putts. It is true that you cannot say that I was particularly well rested after feeling bad earlier this week. ”

Rahm only hit 11 of 26 fairways in two laps on a tree-lined course.

Barjon in-extremis

With just 11 of the 18 greens taken in regulation on Friday, it was on his little game that Paul Barjon once again relied on the Frenchman during the second round to cross the first cut of his 2022 season on the PGA Tour.

Starting from the 10th, the adopted Texan started his day with a splendid iron shot at the 15 one par 3 of 173 meters which came to a stop 1.20 m from the hole to sign the first of his 3 birdies of the day. His second card under par with in particular an excellent chip-putt at nightfall on the 9, his last hole of the day, allowed him to qualify for the weekend.

“A big game a little average on the last 9 but luckily there was a little game to make up for all that and make good starts.” commented Barjon
