Diego Forlán: From Soccer Star to Tennis Player – Former Uruguayan Forward to Compete in ITF Tournament

Diego Forlán, former forward of the Uruguay national team, left his coaching career to dedicate himself to tennis and will play in an important International Tennis Federation tournament.

Cachavacha, a historic scorer for La Celeste, began his career as technical director of Peñarol, but his passion for tennis and his love for competition will lead him to compete in the Master 1000 ITF Terrazas Ciudad de Mirasoles tournament.

Forlán will play in the week of June 15 to 22 at the Club Terrazas de Miraflores facilities. This tournament is one of the events within the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour Circuit and is one of the most important in the world in the masters category: it brings together tennis players between 30 and 85 years old.

There are three different competitions between men and women: singles, doubles and mixed doubles. It is the only tournament on the circuit that has a main judge, linesmen, ball catchers, physical therapy and all the club’s facilities at the free disposal of the participants.

There are 30 MT 1000 tournaments in the world: 23 are in the United States, 2 in Australia, 1 in Spain, 1 in Turkey, 1 in Croatia, 1 in Bolivia and this only one in Peru, which was the first in South America.
