Rafael Nadal canceled his start at the ATP Masters in Toronto at short notice due to a foot injury. Jannik Sinner, on the other hand, starts the tournament on Wednesday.

“This is not the message I wanted to convey. But I have pain in my foot and it doesn’t allow me to compete. I hope we’ll see you in Toronto in two years, ”said the 35-year-old on Instagram. After a bye in the first round, Nadal should have played against South African Lloyd Harris.
After a two-month break from the tournament, Nadal last lost in Washington in the round of 16 against the South African. Even then, the 20-time Grand Slam winner complained of foot problems. Nadal had recently skipped the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon and the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Jannik Sinner starts off with James Duckworth in Toronto. The game against the Australian, who ranks 85th in the world, is scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m. CEST. In doubles there was an early end for the sex man.
Serena Williams renounces Cincinnati
Serena Williams also has to extend her break. The former world number one announced on Tuesday, along with her sister Venus Williams and US compatriot Sofia Kenin, that she would not participate in the major WTA tournament in Cincinnati.
