Dheva Anrimusthi, Accident, and Tokyo 2020 Paralympics Gold Target All

KOMPAS.com – Badminton is in fact not only a mainstay of the medal barn at the Olympics, but also the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics are an event like the Olympics but the participants are people with special needs.

Indonesia sent 23 athletes from seven sports to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics stage.

One of them is the SU5 badminton player Dheva Anrimusthi who is also Indonesia’s mainstay to bring home the medal.

SU5 class means standing/upper limb impairment or upper body disability.

Dheva Anrimusthi has a permanent injury to his right hand. The injury forced his hand to be unable to straighten and bend perfectly.

Accident

Launch site Compass Daily, Dheva Anrimusthi was originally a badminton player and registered as an athlete at Candra Wijaya Badminton Club, Tangerang.

However, a motorcycle accident happened to him in 2013 or when he was 15 years old. As a result, Dheva’s right hand could not function normally.

In fact, he had to give up some of his daily activities depending on his left hand.

Three years away from the badminton world, Dheva got back up to practice. The 2016 Peparnas event was the start of him competing again in the competitive arena.

“I still play badminton, but only play with my friends and neighbors,” Dheva was quoted as saying Compass Daily in September 2019.

“I almost didn’t even think about going back into the world of badminton because I was considered incapable due to the accident,” he explained.

Rise

The 2016 Peparnas (National Paralympic Week) event convinced him that he could still compete and fight against limitations.

Since then, he has returned to training and has had the opportunity to appear at major events.

Dheva Anrimusthi’s name then soared thanks to her achievements at the 2018 Asian Paragames Jakarta.

Dheva presented three gold, from the men’s team, men’s doubles SU5, and men’s singles SU5.

In addition, he also had time to taste as the highest podium at the 2019 BWF World Championships for the men’s singles and men’s doubles.

Now, he is also one of Indonesia’s mainstays to win the gold medal. Yes, the gold medal is the target of the Indonesian contingent at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

“The target of one gold is expected from the paralympic badminton team,” explained Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian NPC Rima Ferdianto to Kompas Daily.

“At least, they have valuable experience getting four gold, three silver and four bronze at the 2019 Paralympic Badminton World Championships in Basel, Switzerland,” he continued.
