Sprint Race bitter, Sainz’s anger explodes

The results of the first Sprint Race of history were not memorable for the Ferrari, but then no one inside the box of the Red had any illusions.

Silverstone is a circuit where the SF21 can surprise however, so the fourth place of Charles Leclerc, who kept the starting position (which will be the same in the starting grid on Sunday) and the 10th of Carlos Sainz they represent an overall acceptable result also from the point of view of the British GP itself, in which, as always, Ferrari’s goal will be to stay ahead of the competing teams for third place among the constructors, above all McLaren Mercedes.

In reality the Spaniard, who started from ninth position, has to complain given what happened on the first lap, that is the contact with Williams of George Russell which made Carlos Sainz end up in the grass, effectively compromising the progress of the entire race.

The former McLaren did not hide his discontent at the end of the race and did not even spare accuse to the young colleague: “I think I left him as much space as possible because I know that whoever is inside is likely to end up wide, but nevertheless he made an obvious mistake that cost me the race”.

“I was relegated to last position and made a great comeback up to eleventh position – added the Ferrari driver – Today we had the race pace and the pace, but these episodes hurt and complicate the whole weekend. We could have finished later ”.

Obviously the “little gem” of the Williams, sanctioned by the commissioners with a relegation three positions on the grid, a decision that made Sainz climb to 10th place (the Spaniard had finished in eleventh position):

“Carlos came quite far and cut towards me – said Russell speaking to the official F1 website – I saw him, but there was nothing more I could have done for the corner I was in. I was trying to swerve more, I was on the brakes, but you can see that I had just started locking the tire while he was closing the door so there was nothing more I could have done. I think it’s one of those things that happens, when you come from the outside you can’t really see what’s inside. So I guess for him, he just didn’t know where I was. Those are those things that happen on the first lap ”.

Sainz however said he was optimistic in view of Sunday, despite the sixth row: “I managed to make the first part of the comeback today, tomorrow the second part awaits me. This weekend our car seems to have the race pace to finish in the top 6. However, we must consider that overtaking on this track is difficult ”.
