A LEB Gold of 18 teams in a group

Palencia Baloncesto will not finally play in the 2021-22 campaign with the competition system that it played last year, but the LEB Oro returns to the single group, as before the pandemic.

The last minute resignation of Real Murcia has changed the plans provided by the Spanish Basketball Federation, which initially had 19 teams. When reduced to 18 (after the FC Barcelona subsidiary resigned and Força Lleida regained its place in the league despite having been relegated), Pedro Rivero’s team will once again experience a regular 34-game league. A classic, all against all back and forth, with a second phase already play-off.

PARTICIPANTS. What is certain is that there are four new features compared to last season.

Movistar Estudiantes will definitely play in the LEB Oro, after having avoided their previous relegation from the highest category of national basketball. Along with the locals, Acunsa GBC from Donostia will once again play as a visitor in the municipal sports pavilion, the other one relegated from the Endesa ACB League.

In addition, after the resignation of Barça, CB Prat and Juaristi ISB will play in LEB Oro. Both return, the Basque team after having disputed the category in 17-18 (with the name of Sammic Hostelería), when they had Aitor Zubizarreta in their ranks. The Catalan team has a longer trajectory in the category, where they played between 14-15 and 18-19. A year before going down, he fought for promotion, with Arturo Álvarez at the helm of a squad where the ex-beloved Josep Pérez and Marc Blanch (an important veteran who has been one of the architects of the return to Gold) played.

The other teams that will participate in the second national basketball competition will be Melilla Sport Capital, Leyma Coruña, Cáceres World Heritage Site, Liberbank Oviedo Baloncesto, Palmer Alma Mediterránea, HLA Alicante, CB Almansa with Afanion, ICG Força Lleida, Tau Castelló, Peñas Huesca, Basketball Girona, Covirán Granada and Real Valladolid.

RETURN TO ARGENTINA. One of the players who wore the Palencia shirt last year, the Argentine Lucho Massarelli, has committed himself to Comodoro Rivadavia’s Gymnastics and Fencing, from his country’s LNB.

The escort made his debut in European basketball in Palencia.
