CAPE CANA. – Puerto Rican Javier Figueroa became the first competitor to reach the finish line after completing the route of the 2024 edition of the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon held this Sunday in Cap Cana, Destination City, marking the first occasion for the Dominican Republic.

In the female branch, from 40 to 44 years old, Brenda Schaupp, born in Argentina, but representing the Dominican Republic, reached second place behind Alina Hanschke, from Mexico, who occupied the first overall position with a time of 4:32:28 seconds. Third place went to Adilia Jiménez Chacón, from Costa Rica.

The Dominican achieved the goal with a time of 4:56:13 seconds. Dominican Yean Jiménez became the first in the country to reach the goal after participating in the 40-44 year old category, setting a time of 4:40:55. “I congratulate the participants for once again taking on the challenges of this type of competition. This event constitutes a very important event for the Dominican Republic as it is the first time it is held in the country. This is a reward for Cap Cana’s efforts that have made us what we are today as a Destination City,” Hazoury said.

He added that “Cap Cana is unique in the Caribbean, its people are empathetic and happy. Today that this triathlon takes place in our city, it commits us to continue creating spaces for healthy fun. “We are happy and happy to contribute to sports tourism.”

The athletes completed the course by swimming 1.9 km (1.2 miles) in the crystal-clear waters of Cap Cana’s private coast and beach in the Atlantic Ocean.
