Spanish tennis player Svaresa-Navarro (WTA 118) lost to American Sloeine Stevens (WTA 59) with a result of 6-3, 6-7 (4: 7), 4-6.

Svaresa-Navarro announced last September that she had a type of malignancy, Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After a nine-month break during which the athlete underwent chemotherapy and 15 radiotherapy sessions, she returned to the competition.

True, the 32-year-old Svaresa-Navarro, who once took sixth place in the rankings, was probably the last French Open career championship. She will also take part in her farewell tour at the Wimbledon Championships, the US Open and also possibly the Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, the planet’s first racket, Ashley Barthy, from Australia, defeated the American Bernard Peru (WTA 70) in the first round with the result 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

“This court is very close to me. It’s nice to play in front of the fans here. In the third set I increased the pressure, but I have to admit that Bernarda had an incredible match,” said 2019 champion Barthy.

In the women’s tournament, the sixth racket of the planet Yelina Switolina from Ukraine defeated the hostess of the organizers’ special invitation Oseāna Babeli (WTA 1111) with the result 6-2, 7-5.

Karolīna Plīškova, the owner of the tenth place in the ranking, is also continuing the tournament from the leading athletes, the Czech played Donn Vekič (WTA 36) with 7-5, 6-4 in the first round.

It was not without difficulty that the first Baltic racket Anete Kontaveita (WTA 31st) overcame the first round. The Estonian, placed 30th, won the Swiss Victoria Golubic (WTA 72) in three sets with the result 6-7 (4: 7), 7-6 (7: 5), 6-0.

The second Grand Slam of the season – the French Open – will run until June 13, when the 2021 Tokyo Olympics qualify.
