Daniel Farabello: “We are looking to gain the rhythm of competition”

The head coach of the U19 National Team, spoke with Prensa CAB about his impressions at the beginning of a new team concentration. Objectives, identity and methodology.

The U19 Men’s National Team is going through the first days of its second concentration for the World Cup in the category, which will take place from July 3 to 11 in Latvia. For this stage, the coaching staff led by Daniel Farabello summoned a total of 18 players, including four members who work abroad and who had not been able to be in the initial summons.

Farabello himself, who has been working with the litter since 2016, took stock of the objectives of this concentration: “The idea was to continue seeing the boys, because the last concentration was more focused on the diagnosis, considering that we had not seen them for a long time. Now we take the opportunity to add some of the boys who play abroad and who could come. We want to continue seeing them to fine-tune the group and reach the final twelve making mistakes as little as possible. The idea is that they play, because there are many who have practically not played. We are looking to gain the rhythm of competition “.

The group is concentrated in the Cenard, where it shares facilities with the Women’s National Team. Regarding the work methodologies, Farabello explained: “We are working in three shifts, one for the physical part and weights; another of individual technique plus throw; and one of basketball and collective work. There are days that we do the three integrated shifts and others that we divide it into different times, one in the morning and another in the afternoon, depending on the availability of the field”.

Argentina arrives in Latvia as South American U17 runner-up in 2019 and but without having played an official competition in 2020, like the vast majority of its rivals. In Chile, the selected team was a deep team, with variations in all positions and a great contribution from the substitute bench that allowed them to be intense and perform a great wear. “We have to rely on dynamics, fast play, and short possessions to compete. We know well the rivals that we are going to have and the possible crosses of the round of 16. They are very difficult rivals with a lot of hierarchy. You have to go game after game and then play everything at the crossroads, which can put you among the eight”Explained Farabello.

Argentina will share Group C with Spain, France and Korea. The first stage is played in a free-for-all format and then the four will advance to the quarter-final stage. Regarding the rivals, Farabello explained: “We do not have many references due to the lack of competition in recent years. We have references from tournaments from two years ago. We are all in the same conditions. The idea is to get to Latvia and get two or three friendlies, if possible, and really see where we are standing.”.
