The national team is back on the shooting range after a two-year hiatus. He resumed with the second stage of the World Cup circuit, after having decided to desert the trip to Guatemala of the first stage. And among the Azzurri called up by the Compound coach, Flavio Valesella, Sergio Pagni from Montecatini was a bit surprising too, returning to the race after the injury to his left hand that had forced him to miss the whole season of indoor competitions.

In Lausanne, the left-handed standard bearer of the Compagnia Arcieri Città di Pescia performed well. Qualified in the knockout phase with the 23rd score, 701 points, in the 24th of the final he eliminated the Dutch Sil Pater (147-143) without suffering too much, but already in the round of 32 he had to stop, overcome (144- 146) from the French Afrien Gontier; together with his teammates Marco Bruno (Volpiano) and Federico Pagnoni (Montalcino) he also improved the new Italian record for national teams, scoring 2110 points, five more than the previous record, 2105, which had been achieved in 2013 in Wroclaw from the team that still included Pagni and Pagnoni, accompanied by Stefano Mazzi.

The Italian trio finished fifth in the rankings and in the quarters they faced and beat (233-231) the French team formed by Gontier, Quentin Baraer and Nicolas Girard. In the semifinal, the Azzurri stopped (232-234) in front of the Dutch battleship, strong of Michael MrPerfect Schloesser, flanked by Max Verwoerdt and Pater; the consolation final fought against the three of the United States, Braden Gellenthien, James Lutz and Kriss Schaff; a very balanced match was resolved only with a magnifying glass play-off: after the 4 regular volleys the match had ended 235-235, in the shoot-off arrows both teams scored 29 points, but one of Italy’s 10 came closer to the center and the bronze medal went to Pagni, Pagnoni and Bruno’s necks.
