The battle waged by his wife Marilinda and daughters Marta and Miriam, with the support of many friends and acquaintances, led to the result. Official ceremony next June 5th at 11am.
The process lasted about three years but finally Gianni Minnucci he will see recognized what he has done for sports and basketball in the area and beyond. Minnucci, who died prematurely in 2014, was a man of the institutions in charge of the administration of the city hospital and of the Ipab GB Lisi, as well as holding the figure of the general secretary of several municipalities. But it was in local basketball that Gianni Minnucci played first as a player and as a coach, bringing the various clubs and teams to levels never reached before and, above all, involving generations of young and very young people. It all started at the end of the sixties, when the city basketball took place in the historic center, under the “Girone”, in a pitch currently transformed into a parking lot and which over the years many have dreamed of returning to its original nature.
From the first “Alatri Basket Association“, Passed through the” Società Pallacanestro Alatri “, born from the merger with the Polisportiva Libertas Alatri which marked a great moment for the city basketball which began to grow in the number of fans and in the following of fans up to the promotion in Serie D. In those years Minnucci moved to the field of nearby Ferentino, while Alatri continued his career up to Serie C, without however changing his enthusiasm and passion for the young Alatrensi whom he continued to follow and coach. After the end of the Alatri Basketball Association, the New Basket Alatri was born from the passion for sport in 1991 and Gianni Minnucci realized the dream of a new company that thought first and foremost of young people and children, and that had team spirit principles combined with play, pure fun. A successful company was born that quickly grew to count 200 students and 8 teams but for another twenty years or so Minnucci’s business was unstoppable.
For this reason, his wife and daughters launched a popular petition between the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018 with an extraordinary success that led to the formal request, at the Municipality, for the title of “his house”. A year and a half later, the toponymy Commission approved and, finally, the favorable opinion of the Prefecture. All ready for the ceremony next June 5th at eleven in the morning at the Palasport in Chiappitto, where a special plaque entrusted to the creativity of the young and eclectic will be discovered local artist Viola Pantano.
