Jakarta

There are eight Indonesian badminton players who have been sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for the match fixing case. Here are the names.

On Friday (8/1/2021), BWF released a case of integrity and gambling in badminton which involved badminton players from Indonesia.

On its official website, BWF states that these players know each other and compete in low-level international events for most of Asia until 2019. They have been proven to have violated BWF’s integrity regulations regarding match fixing, match manipulation and gambling in badminton.

They have now been given heavy sanctions. Three of the eight Indonesian badminton players who were caught in the match fixing case were even sentenced to be banned from engaging in badminton activities for a lifetime. The other five players were suspended for between six and 12 years and fined between US $ 3,000 and US $ 12,000 respectively.

Prior to this, Broto Happy as the Head of Public Relations and Media for PP PBSI strongly condemned the match fixing behavior of Indonesian badminton players. He also confirmed that the eight names were not national training athletes.

“For PBSI, maybe I can represent it (in giving a statement). In essence, we strongly condemn the illegal allegations. Even though all of them are suspected of being involved, none of the players who live in Pelatnas,” said Broto to detikSport, Friday (8/1/2021).

“No, none of the players who inhabit the National Pelatnas. I have checked or the past or present,” he emphasized.

BWF also gave the opportunity to eight Indonesian badminton players in this match fixing case to appeal the sanctions given. Regarding that, PBSI chose to wait.

“I don’t know what their legal standing is. Whether they stand alone or represent (PBSI). I don’t know yet, it should be asked to the law department about their legal position. We may still be waiting for how it develops. Because these players are outside the Pelatnas, if Pelatnas residents are clear the rules, “said Broto Happy.
